Seated outside at LaBuvette on a warm Thursday in the Old Market in Omaha Iperused the menu on the chalkboard and settled for gazpacho and abuffalo mozzarella plate with an appropriate dry white wine assuggested by my server.
The gazpacho was flavorful and refreshing. A sprinkle of choppedtomato, cucumber and red onion with a drizzle of good olive oilfinished the soup beautifully. The plate was a simple presentationof buffalo mozzarella sprinkled with fine threads of basil, slicesof heirloom tomato and even finer slices of cucumber, a few pittedkalamata olives and a finishing drizzle of olive oil. Thecomplimentary plate of crusty artisan bread with butter was a joy to nosh. The wine, whose name escapes me, was outstanding:dry, refreshing, with notes of pear.
This would have been a fine lunch alone, but a selection on thedessert menu compelled me to give it a try. How often does one geta chance to sample a swiss chard, raisin & pine nut tart? Not too sweet, and served with a dollop of sour cream and yet another drizzle of that delightful extra virgin olive oil. Paired with a stunningly good cup of coffee it made for a greatfinish to this relaxing meal.
